Little Stars is the pre-school section of Fiona Henderson School of Dance (FHSD).

Little Stars Programme was specially developed based on my personal experience of over thirty years teaching dance to children. It has been designed to give the smallest pupils in our School from 18 months - our ‘Baby Stars’ - an exciting introduction to dance in their early years accompanied by their parent or carer.

The next step is our ‘Tiny Stars’ classes for pupils aged 2 to 3 years. This is an engaging class for ante pre-school aged children through a series of exercises, stories and dances enabling them to develop in areas of musicality, co-ordination, balance, spacial-awareness, mime and expression accompanied by carefully selected music and props.

Once in their pre-school year our Little Stars Programme continues, and pupils can enrol in the formal subjects of Ballet, Highland and Stage (Tap & Modern combined class) where they continue to develop and learn foot positions, arm positions, muscle development and basic movements suitable for their age and ability. They are prepared for their Starlite 1 examinations with the BATD (British Association of Teachers of Dancing) in the following subjects – Ballet, Tap, Modern and Highland. At this level, pupils are also encouraged to develop the skills required to be a good dance student – listening for instruction, paying attention to teachers, accepting corrections, attending in correct uniform and learning dance class etiquette. These skills are all taught in a fun and imaginative way to help children remember them.

I look forward to welcoming your child to Little Stars.
